Zii Jia, Wooi Yik and Wei Chong left out of Asian Games squad


PETALING JAYA: Lee Zii Jia, Soh Wooi Yik and Man Wei Chong have all been left out of Malaysia's badminton squad for the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya from Sept 19-Oct 4.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) confirmed the line-up on Tuesday (July 21).

Leong Jun Hao, Justin Hoh and youngster Kong Wei Xiang have been named as the men's singles players for the team event.

In the men's doubles, Aaron Chia will partner Tee Kai Wun, while independent world No. 1 pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani have also been included in the squad.

BAM have also retained women's doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah and called up rising duo Low Zi Yu-Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan.

The women's singles line-up comprises K. Letshanaa, Wong Ling Ching, Oo Shan Zi and Eng Ler Qi.

The mixed doubles squad will see Chen Tang Jie join forces with Cheng Su Yin, while professional pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie have also been selected.

The badminton events will be held at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium, with the team event scheduled from Sept 20-24 before the individual competition takes place from Sept 25-29.

At the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, Malaysia won one bronze medal through Aaron-Wooi Yik in the men's doubles.
