Pearly-Thinaah power on as Malaysia's lone survivors in China

PETALING JAYA: National women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah kept Malaysia's hopes alive in the China Open after emerging as the country’s lone survivors following the second round on Thursday (July 23).

The fifth seeds booked their place in the quarter-finals with a 21-19, 21-12 victory over Ukraine's Polina Buhrova-Yevheniia Kantemyr in just 30 minutes at the Changzhou Olympic Sports Centre.

Pearly-Thinaah will next face Japan’s fourth seeds Yuki Fukushima-Mayu Matsumoto on Friday for a place in the semi-finals.

Earlier, Malaysia suffered a complete wipeout in the men’s doubles as Man Wei Chong-Soh Wooi Yik, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, and Tan Wee Kiong-Nur Azriyn Ayub all bowed out.

It was also the end of the road for Leong Jun Hao in the men’s singles and mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie.
