Chinese pair's withdrawal hands Pearly-Thinaah quarter-final spot at Indian Open

KUALA LUMPUR: Luck was on the side of Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah as they advanced to the Indian Open quarter-finals without much effort after their Chinese opponents, Jia Yifan-Zhang Shuxian, decided to retire.

At that point, Pearly and Thinaah were leading 14-4. However, Yifan approached the umpire to inform them of Shuxian’s injury.

The Malaysian pair were awarded the victory after just nine minutes of play when the Malaysian Open runners-up decided not to continue.

In the quarter-finals tomorrow, Pearly and Thinaah will face Japan's Yuki Fukushima-Mayu Matsumoto.
