Strong discus man Irfan ends Malaysia’s six-year wait for medal


A job well done: Irfan Shamsuddin registered a distance of 59.63m to give Malaysia their first medal in the Asian meet.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia ended their six-year wait for a medal in the Asian Championships after Irfan Shamsuddin bagged the bronze medal in the discus throw event at the National Stadium in Bangkok yesterday.

The 26-year-old registered a distance of 59.63m, which was nowhere near his season best of 62.12m, but it was good enough to give Malaysia their first medal in the Asian meet.
