Sayyid Amin breaks personal best at Asian U-20 meet

PETALING JAYA: National junior sprinter Mohd Sayyid Amin Roslan (pic) made an encouraging start to his campaign at the Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships 2026 after clocking a new personal best in the men’s 200m heats in Hong Kong.

Competing in Heat 2, Sayyid posted a time of 21.28s to surpass his previous personal best of 21.29s and secure his place in the semi-finals.

Another Malaysian sprinter, Danish Iftikhar Mohd Roslee, also delivered a solid performance in Heat 3 of the men’s 200m, recording a time of 21.35s to advance to the semi-finals.

The men’s 200m semi-finals will be held today morning.

In the women’s 200m event, Izzatul Musfirah Ahmad Kamal improved her season-best mark after clocking 24.88s in Heat 3, bettering her previous season best of 24.91s.

However, her effort was not enough to secure a place in the final.

National coach Manshahar Abd Jalil praised the performances of his athletes, describing their progress as positive despite facing strong competition from other countries.

“Both athletes did well and qualified for the semi-finals today morning. Hopefully, they can make it to the final despite the tough challenges from other countries,”said Manshahar.

“The aim is for them to continue improving and getting faster in every race and competition, and that is what the coaching team are working towards.”
