Academics competing to publish

THE trend of Malaysian academics airing their viewpoints through letters to the editor in mainstream newspapers is a promising and healthy development in fostering intellectual discourse within our society.

However, it is disheartening to note that many of the letters lack the depth expected of individuals of such academic standing.
