I WATCHED the Hindi film Dhurandhar 2 at a cinema in Petaling Jaya recently. It was a great movie, but I felt angry because of the overzealous censoring by Lembaga Penapis Filem (Film Censorship Board of Malaysia).
I have several comments for the LPF.
The film has been rated 18, meaning it is only suitable for adults and no children would be allowed into the cinema. And there were no children in the cinema when I was there. So who is the LPF protecting?
The Punjabi dialogue should be okay for 18+ audiences and there was also no need to mute the dialogue in some places.
Furthermore, for a film that was rated 18, the violent scenes need not have been shortened or deleted. Total nudity or erotic sex scenes can be deleted.
LPF, please do not spoil movies for mature audiences. I am 70 years old, so I don’t understand what you are protecting me from.
Please act as film censors and not as our moral guardians. In fact, there should be minimal censoring as long as the films are properly rated.
There’s no fun going to the cinema nowadays. Ticket prices are high and at the end of the day, one comes out of the cinema feeling disappointed because the film has been excessively censored.
