Take GST’s best feature and build it into SST

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for the present Sales and Service Tax (SST) system to be improved by incorporating the useful features of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) for better revenue collection, greater simplicity and less cascading tax on tax. This is a timely direction.

The single most valuable principle in GST is straightforward: a business should not ultimately bear tax on genuine inputs used to produce its taxable output.
