30 jade bangles shattered

A JEWELLERY store in Jiangsu, China, suffered a costly accident after a newly-hired university graduate broke an entire tray of jade bangles worth over one million yuan (RM593,977) due to a mishap, China Press reported.

The owner, known only as Cheng, invited a celebrity and a jade expert to promote his goods during a livestream on Oct 4 at his newly renovated shop which had yet to be carpeted.

During the event, Cheng asked one of his new employees to move a table.

The employee failed to notice a jewellery tray on the table. As he pulled the table away, the tray filled with jade bangles fell to the floor. CCTV footage showed the employee frozen in shock seeing the damage done.

Cheng said all 30 Hetian green and white jade bangles were completely destroyed.

When the footage went viral, many expressed concern whether the graduate would have to pay for the damage.

Cheng later responded in a social media post that he shared some of the responsibility, adding that he will not ask the employee to pay for the damage.

> Family members of a man in China’s Hunan province tried to sue a foot spa for 1.13mil yuan (RM671,194) for providing “illegal sexual services” which led to him dying from overstimulation, Kwong Wah Yit Poh reported.

The incident took place on March 19 when a man, Li, visited a foot spa and received a massage from a therapist.

At the end of the session at 1.20am, Li appeared to have fallen asleep. An ambulance was called when he remained unresponsive. He was later pronounced dead.

A post-mortem found that Li had died of cardiac arrest, and traces of semen were found at the tip of his genitals and inner thigh.

The court ruled that there was not enough evidence to claim that the spa had offered illegal services which led to Li’s death.

However, the court deemed that the spa had failed to fulfil its duty of care by promptly calling for an ambulance when the client showed signs of distress.

As such, family members were awarded 170,000 yuan (RM100,976), some 15% of what they had originally asked for.
