SEREMBAN: Political parties and their supporters must strictly obey the law throughout the upcoming Negri Sembilan state election or face the legal consequences, says Deputy Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad
The Negri Sembilan deputy chief police officer said the warning spans from nomination day on Saturday (July 18) until the final election results are announced.
He issued the reminder following a meeting with political party representatives where they were briefed on security protocols, legal compliance and party responsibilities during the polling period.
"We want the polls to be carried out in a peaceful, safe and orderly manner.
"As such, all parties are urged to constantly comply with the law and cooperate in maintaining public order throughout the election process," he told reporters at the state police contingent headquarters Thursday (July 16).
DCP Alzafny urged political parties and candidates to control their supporters and avoid any provocations, unauthorised processions, disseminating fake news, slander, hate speech or any statement that could disrupt social harmony during the period.
"They should also avoid touching on 3R issues (race, religion and royalty).
"There should be no action or statements that touch on racial, religious and royal institution sensitivities, whether through political talks (ceramah), campaign materials, media statements, or social media," he said.
On polling day, all parties must extend their full cooperation to the Election Commission and police personnel and refrain from engaging in any activity that could disrupt the smooth voting process or cause a commotion at polling centers.
"After the results are announced, everyone should accept the outcome with maturity and utilise the provided legal channels should they have any objections, without taking any actions that could jeopardise public peace," he added.
The police, he said, had made thorough preparations including personnel deployment, traffic control, crime prevention patrols, intelligence gathering and monitoring to ensure security is maintained throughout the election.
Separately, DCP Alzafny said several roads near nomination centres in all eight districts in the state will be closed from 7am to 2pm on Saturday to allow the process to be carried out smoothly.
He urged motorists to plan their trips accordingly and to use the proposed alternative routes to get to their destinations.
