Negri Polls: Pakatan unfazed by BN-PN non-clash pact

SEREMBAN: DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke remains unfazed over moves by Perikatan Nasional and Barisan Nasional to avoid clashes in the upcoming Negri Sembilan state polls, saying that voters will ultimately decide who helms the state government.

Loke said Pakatan Harapan will focus on its own strength to win all the 36 seats it will contest in the state polls.

“Most importantly, it is Pakatan’s strength and unity in facing the upcoming state polls.

“Whatever challenges and competition lie ahead, I feel that the people will decide.

“The people will evaluate the effectiveness of the Pakatan state government led by Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun since 2018,” said Loke when met during a Kampung Angkat Madani event in Kampung Mantin Dalam on Thursday Morning (July 16).

“The voters will decide, not the party,” added Loke.

Loke also appeared unfazed over potential challenges ahead for Pakatan in the Negri Sembilan polls.

“We will also put up a strong fight,” he added.

Loke said various parties can claim the level of support they enjoy, but the state poll results will reflect the true outcome.

“So, it will depend on voters to evaluate. We will campaign to convince and win over the hearts of voters,” he added.

On Wednesday (July 16), Barisan announced that it will contest 25 out of 36 seats in Negri Sembilan.

Parti Wawasan Negara founder Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin told the Star that there will be no clashes between Barisan and Perikatan in the state polls.

But, later that day, Bersatu, which was a part of Perikatan, said its coalition partner, PAS, pursued cooperation with Barisan without an internal discussion.

Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said his party would instead contest under its own logo instead of Perikatan’s, in the state polls.

Polling for Negri Sembilan will take place on Aug 1.
