QuickCheck: Are shopping malls banned from opening on Hari Raya in Kelantan?

Recently, a notice has been making the rounds on social media supposedly from the Kota Bharu Municipal Council, ordering that all shopping malls and supermarkets stay closed on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Hari Raya Aidiladha until 1pm.

The notice goes on to explain that the employees of the premises are able to perform their prayers in the morning.

Is this true?

VERDICT:

FALSE

Kelantan local government, housing, health and environment executive councillor Hilmi Abdullah rubbished the notice, calling it fake.

"The viral notice is not true. Even the date and year are not stated properly in the so-called notice," he said when contacted by Sinar Harian on Monday (March 9).

He added that the matter would only be decided after the executive council meeting on Wednesday (March 11).

He said that the recommended policy was to close the malls on the first day.
