Three men were detained for allegedly beating a 12-year-old boy at a food court of a People's Housing Project (PPR) in Kuala Lumpur.

The video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said a police report on the incident was lodged on Oct 10.

"The suspects had accused the boy of stealing a power bank before beating him up," he said when contacted on Monday (Nov 3).

"The victim received treatment for lacerations on his forehead and mouth," he added.

Three men aged between 49 and 61 were nabbed in Kelantan and Kuala Lumpur.

"We are still investigating further," he said.

The arrests were made in two different states, indicating the effort by police to track down all individuals involved in the assault.

The incident has raised concerns about vigilante justice and the treatment of children, with many social media users condemning the actions of the suspects.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the alleged theft and subsequent assault.
