QuickCheck: Are fake Fama appointment letters being circulated online?

In life and in business, one must be wary of false information and fake news as they can lead to unwanted losses and heartache.

Is it true that there are fake Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) vendor appointment letters circulating online?

VERDICT:

TRUE

Fama has come out to deny the authenticity of several letters floating on cyberspace, claiming to be official letters from the authority supposedly appointing fake vendors.

"We strongly deny these letters' authenticity, which is misusing our name, logo and the signature of the Fama director-general.

"These 'letters' were not issued by Fama and contain false information made up by irresponsible parties," it said on Facebook on Thursday (Oct 30).

Fama also advised members of the public and businesses who receive suspicious letters or communication to verify the information with the nearest Fama office or contact Fama headquarters at 03-60332020 or the official website www.fama.gov.my.
