FROM August 31 to September 8, 11.8 million people used their Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) Appreciation Aid and SARA monthly credits, spending RM745.7mil nationwide.
The process is simple: visit a participating supermarket, select your items from the eligible categories, present your MyKad, and use it to pay at the cashier.
However, a recent online post claims that those wanting to claim their one-off RM100 SARA Aid must first register.
Is this true?
VERDICT:
FALSE
Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching says that the one-off RM100 SARA Appreciation Aid does not require any registration, as eligible recipients will receive it automatically.
"We received information from the Finance Ministry that some social media posts claimed registration was needed to receive the RM100 SARA aid, but that's not the case," she told Bernama.
She spoke to reporters after officiating the Safe Internet Campaign carnival for Tamil National-Type Schools (SJKT) in Selangor and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (Sept 11).
Teo said the ministry has yet to receive a detailed report on the number of false posts removed concerning SARA.
She also noted that individuals who have not yet turned 18 this year can still receive the aid via their MyKad, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in July.
"Some may currently be 17 years and 10 months old and will celebrate their birthday in two months, so they are also eligible," she said.
