A RECENT event in Batu Pahat has captured public attention after a video went viral online.

Footage shows a man walking back and forth on a busy road, causing vehicles to stop and a traffic build-up.

Police have confirmed a viral incident involving a man accused of blocking traffic on Jalan Parit Bilal, Batu Pahat, Johor, originated from the individual’s mental health issues.

Batu Pahat OCPD ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani, stated that the police received public information about the incident at 1.20pm last Friday (May 2).

It involved a man walking back and forth on the road and causing disturbances to traffic flow.

"Initial investigations found that the 40-year-old man was believed to be experiencing depression as a result of emotional stress following his wife’s disappearance," said Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani.

An initial urine screening test found the individual free from any influence of drugs.

"There were no injuries or damage reported in the incident," he added.

The patient was then taken to Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail (HSNI) Batu Pahat for further examination.

The hospital’s initial assessment confirmed the patient’s condition of depression and he is now admitted for further treatment.

This case is classified as a mental health issue and the police have urged the public not to speculate about the incident.
