GWM Malaysia is set to expand its local mobility portfolio with the preview of two new electrified models at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2026.

The ORA 5 HEV and HAVAL H7 Hi4 PHEV highlight how the company’s brands are evolving as the Chinese automaker looks to deepen its foothold in Malaysia’s increasingly lifestyle-driven automotive market.

Presented under the brand’s KLIMS theme, “For Every User, For Every Journey”, the two models represent distinctly different mobility propositions within GWM’s wider multi-brand, multi-powertrain mobility ecosystem.

GWM Malaysia chief operating officer Roslan Abdullah said Malaysian consumers today expect far more from their vehicles than basic transportation.

“Consumers today expect much more from their vehicles than transportation alone. They are looking for products that can seamlessly integrate into their lifestyles while delivering technology, safety and convenience,” he said.

“Features such as advanced driver assistance systems, intelligent connectivity, fuel efficiency and reliability are becoming key considerations in the decision-making process.”

He added that this multi-brand strategy is aligned with differing consumer preferences in the modern automotive market, as GWM offers a complete mobility ecosystem including urban, family, premium and lifestyle options.

“Different consumers have different lifestyles and priorities. A young urban professional may be looking for something very different from a growing family or an adventure-oriented driver.

“Our multi-brand strategy allows each brand to serve a distinct customer group, while our range of powertrain technologies provides greater flexibility. Together, this enables us to offer solutions that are relevant to a wider range of consumers.

“We are offering them more flexibility to choose what they want.”

Roslan said that GWM offers a complete mobility ecosystem, including urban, family, premium and lifestyle options, which is aligned with differing consumer preferences in the modern automotive market.

Purpose-built for city living

The ORA 5 HEV is a compact urban crossover powered by GWM's Hi2 intelligent hybrid system – a technology designed to deliver both fuel efficiency and driving performance in a single package.

The system produces a combined output of 223 PS and 476 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 7.7 seconds while returning a claimed fuel consumption of just 4.4L/100 km. Its combined driving range exceeds 1,100 km.

The vehicle's design credentials have drawn international recognition as the ORA 5 was named “Design of the Year” at the 2025 London Design Awards – the world's first production vehicle to receive the honour.

The model also holds a Guinness World Records title for the lowest fuel consumption by a production hybrid SUV driving across municipalities in China, achieving 3.74L/100 km over a 3,004 km real-world route.

Roslan described the ORA 5 HEV as purpose-built for urban Malaysians who want efficiency without sacrificing style.

“The ORA 5 HEV brings together award-winning design, intelligent hybrid technology and everyday practicality for urban consumers who want efficiency without compromising on style or comfort,” he said.

Positioned for young professionals and connected urban users, the ORA 5 HEV measures 4,471mm in length with a 2,720mm wheelbase and features design signatures such as waterdrop headlights, hidden taillights and petal-style low-drag wheels.

Engineered for adventure

The HAVAL H7 Hi4 PHEV takes a different tack – a boxy urban off-road SUV powered by GWM's Hi4 plug-in hybrid technology.

Its combined output of 370 PS and 750 Nm of torque delivers a 0-100 km/h time of 6.2 seconds, with up to 150 km of pure electric range (CLTC) and a total combined range of over 1,000 km.

Beyond the performance figures, the H7 Hi4 PHEV is engineered for genuine off-road capability with a 25° approach angle, 32° departure angle, 580mm maximum wading depth and an electronically controlled rear differential lock.

It measures 4,800mm in length with a 2,738mm wheelbase, giving it a commanding road presence to match its rugged character.

For Roslan, the HAVAL H7 Hi4 PHEV speaks to a different set of consumer aspirations entirely.

“The HAVAL H7 Hi4 PHEV appeals to those seeking a bolder and more adventurous lifestyle, combining electrified performance with a distinctive SUV character,” he said.

“Together, these two models demonstrate how GWM is building a complete and differentiated mobility ecosystem tailored to the way Malaysians live, move and explore.”

Championing personalised mobility

The previews of the ORA 5 HEV and HAVAL H7 Hi4 PHEV form part of a wider showcase at KLIMS 2026.

The full line-up also includes the HAVAL H6 HEV, WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV, the newly introduced TANK 300 HEV, TANK 500 HEV and ORA GOOD CAT EV.

Visitors to GWM's booth can expect test drives, technology displays, interactive activities and a dedicated TANK off-road obstacle course running from June 12 to 14.

Roslan noted that the hybrid line-up at KLIMS 2026 was chosen by design, as this technology remains central to GWM’s approach for Malaysian consumers.

“It allows consumers to experience the benefits of electrification, including improved efficiency and lower fuel consumption, while retaining the convenience of traditional refuelling, making the transition towards electrified mobility easier and more practical,” he said.

He explained that GWM’s ultimate goal is to champion personalised mobility at scale.

“Every vehicle, technology and ownership experience we develop is guided by the goal of meeting real-world customer needs,” said Roslan.

“Whether someone prioritises efficiency, adventure, family practicality or premium comfort, our objective is to provide a solution that aligns with their individual journey.

“We want to ensure the best customer ownership experience for all our customers.”

KLIMS 2026 opens to the public from June 12 to 21 at the Malaysian International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec).
