A VIDEO showing a badly damaged SUV being driven along Jalan Kepong in the middle of the night went viral on social media, and it was not hard to see why.

The vehicle's front end appeared to be in pieces, yet it was still very much on the move, weaving through traffic in a way that put other road users at risk.

Was this severely damaged SUV really driven dangerously along Jalan Kepong?

Verdict:

TRUE

The incident occurred on June 6 at approximately 12.30am, according to Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa.

Initial investigations found that the 26-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle after the front right tyre and rear left tyre burst, causing the SUV to skid and crash into a road divider.

"The accident caused damage to the front part of the vehicle including the bumper, bonnet, lights, fender, rim and front and rear tyres," ACP Mohd Zamzuri said in a statement on Wednesday (June 17).

"However, no injuries were reported in the incident," he added.

Despite the extensive damage, the driver continued on his journey.

His actions were detected by a team from the Mobile Patrol Vehicle Unit of the Sentul District Police Headquarters, who were conducting crime prevention patrols in the area at approximately 1.15am the same day.

Police spotted the vehicle being driven in a suspicious and dangerous manner along Jalan Kepong before successfully stopping it in front of a premises along Jalan Barat, Jinjang Utara.
