QuickCheck: Is the discovery of 50 tonnes of bullets proof Malaysia is being invaded?

IN A world where rumours can spread faster than facts, a viral social media post has stirred up fears of impending danger.

The discovery of 50 tonnes of bullets and casings in Selangor has been touted as evidence of an enemy preparing to invade Malaysia.

Is this claim a genuine threat or just a false alarm?

Verdict:

FALSE

An investigation by Bernama's MyCheck.my debunked the viral claim, clarifying that the discovery of bullet casings and ammunition was related to a raid on an unlicensed e-waste processing factory.

This finding has no connection to any enemy or invasion efforts.

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department deputy director Datuk Mohamad Suzrin Mohamad Rodhi explained that the ammunition waste was imported from overseas.

"The casings and bullets are to be melted down to separate valuable metals such as tin and copper before being formed into ingots," he said.

Mohamad Suzrin emphasised that the real threat lies in the dangers associated with the e-waste processing itself, which includes toxic substances like mercury, lead, arsenic, and other harmful chemicals that pose risks to public health and the environment.

This investigation highlights that the viral post about Malaysia being at risk of colonisation is unfounded, and the true concern should be the health and environmental hazards posed by improper e-waste processing.
