SOME drivers don't just battle the usual traffic woes but also intentional vehicular assaults. A video has circulated online showing a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle deliberately colliding with another car, raising eyebrows and concerns.
Did such a brazen act of road rage happen in Teluk Intan?
Verdict:
TRUE
Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Adnan Basri confirmed the incident occurred at Taman Manggis in Teluk Intan, Perak on Friday (Feb 14).
ACP Ahmad Adnan said the car belonging to the victim, a businessman in his 30s, sustained damages to the front bumper, left side of the bonnet and the back passenger's door.
"From our investigation, we believe that it is related to a report that was lodged on Oct 22 last year.
"A 71-year-old man lodged the report, stating that he had received a threatening note that was sent with a drone," he said in a statement.
"The threat was due to a business dispute between the elderly man, who is the victim's business partner, and the driver of the 4WD vehicle about five years ago.
"We are now trying to track down the driver of the 4WD vehicle, aged 42," he added.
The 54-second clip, recorded using a dashcam and which has since gone viral, shows the victim's car exiting a house when a 4WD vehicle, waiting by the roadside, lunges forward.
The 4WD bumps into the car twice, with the second impact causing the car to lose control and stop.
The victim managed to escape to safety and later lodged a police report.
ACP Ahmad Adnan said the latest incident is being investigated under Section 506 and 427 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and committing mischief that caused damages respectively.
"For Section 506, those convicted can be jailed up to two years or fined or both.
"As for Section 427, those convicted can be jailed up to five years or fined or both," he said.
"The people are advised to lodge police reports immediately if they received threats or were involved in a car crash.
"The police report is the first important step to help the authority conduct investigations and take the necessary actions," he said, adding that the Hilir Perak police can be contacted at 05-629 9222 for complaints or information sharing.
"We also want to remind the people not to take matters into their own hands, which can be dangerous," he added.
