IN THE digital age, our every move can easily become part of the nightly news, especially when misdeeds are caught on camera.

A video has been making the rounds on social media, purportedly showing a pervert making an unsavoury attempt at capturing an upskirt photo at a condominium in Johor Baru.

But did this dubious act really take place under the watchful eyes of a CCTV camera?

Verdict:

TRUE

Police have confirmed they have received information regarding a viral video circulating on social media, which depicts an individual attempting to take an upskirt photo of a woman in a condominium on Jalan Wadi Hana in Johor Baru.

The report of the incident was lodged by a 31-year-old local man on Oct 21 at around 6.58pm.

Johor Baru Selatan Deputy OCPD Supt Lim Jit Huey stated: "We can confirm the incident took place as reported."

However, according to Supt Lim: "No victim has come forward to lodge a police report concerning the incident," and efforts are ongoing to identify the victim.

The case is being investigated under Section 377D of the Penal Code, where offenders face a potential imprisonment term of up to two years if convicted.

Additionally, the case is also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which could result in a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to one year, or both, with a further fine of RM1,000 for each day the offence continues after conviction.
