QuickCheck: Are EPF Account 3 “unauthorised withdrawals” being used in a new scam?

There's no smoke without fire, no honey without bees, and no government financial scheme without scammers trying to use it to steal your hard-earned cash. Are scammers using fake messages about unauthorised "withdrawals" from the newly set-up Employees Provident Fund (EPF) Account 3 to dupe unsuspecting Malaysians?

VERDICT:

TRUE

EPF warned the public of a scam in which scammers would send a message, supposedly from the EPF, to their potential victims, alerting them that withdrawals were made on Account 3. The scammers hope this will cause anyone receiving this message to panic and call the number in the message to stop the "withdrawal", only for them to be fed a bunch of lies and pumped for cash.

EPF, in a Facebook post on Wednesday (May 15), urged its account holders to be cautious and always get their information from official sources.
