DRIVERS have long been told to be wary of oily patches on the road as driving over one risks having your vehicle lose traction and skid off the road.

Trying to avoid an oily patch on the road is hard enough, especially if you are driving at highway speeds, but what if the patch takes up the majority of the road?

On Tuesday (May 14), a video went viral on social media showing a tanker lorry gushing an oily liquid onto the Karak Highway, near Gombak. Is this true?

Verdict:

TRUE

Gombak OCPD Assistant Commissioner Noor Ariffin Mohamad confirmed an accident occurred involving a tanker truck carrying a load of used cooking oil on the Karak Highway.

The tanker, he said, overturned after hitting a road divider at KM36.8 of the Karak Highway heading towards Kuala Lumpur here on Monday (May 13).

"Our investigation found that the incident happened at about 2pm involving a tanker driven by a local man in his 50s," said ACP Noor Ariffin, adding that the tanker was on its way from Kuantan to Port Klang.

"It is believed that the driver of the tanker lost control of his vehicle due to bad road conditions caused by heavy rain," he said in a statement on Monday.

He however added that the victim did not suffer any injuries as a result of the incident and said that the incident is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 (Rule 10 LN 166/59)," he said.
