QuickCheck: Did a man fall into a coma after trying to stop a snatch thief?

SNATCH thieves are among the worst kind of criminal, as their actions could lead to victims suffering serious injuries or in some cases, even death.

Recently on a post that went viral, a woman said that her brother had been left in a coma after he tried to run after a snatch thief who had stolen a chain from her.

Is this true?

Verdict:

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said the police received a report of the incident from a 23-year-old woman.

According to Malay news portal Majoriti.com.my, the woman said she was walking with her brother on the walkway near a row of shophouses in Bandar Menjalara, Kepong, when a man on a motorcycle snatched her chain.

She said her brother managed to jump onto the back of the motorcycle, but as the suspect sped away he lost his grip and fell off. She said he injured both his head and right leg.

"The victim was sent to the hospital for further treatment," said ACP Sukarno.

He said police had begun investigating the incident and urged the people not to speculate or spread unverified information.

"The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for causing voluntary injuries during a robbery," said ACP Ahmad Sukarno.

Prior to this a video clip of the incident went viral showing the brother clinging to the back of the motorcycle as the snatch thief made his getaway.
