QuickCheck: Was a man in Selangor arrested for allegedly murdering his mother?


IN Asian cultures, elders are respected – and parents especially so. As such, any news in which a child is accused or suspected of killing a parent tends to go viral rapidly here in Malaysia.

It was claimed online recently that a man was arrested for allegedly using a hammer and safety boots to murder his mother.

Is this true?

In a statement issued on the Polis (IPD) Shah Alam Facebook page, Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said that a 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of his 56-year-old mother at Kampung Jawa, Selangor.

He said that the police had received a report on the incident on Wednesday (Feb 28) from the public at about 9.45am

“The investigation found that the woman was a housewife living with her husband and her son, who is the suspect. The deceased had an argument with the suspect, who hit her with a pair of safety boots and a metal hammer before fleeing,” said ACP Mohd Iqbal.

He then added that the suspect was a barber and was arrested at 11.30am at Taman Sentosa Klang.

“The suspect has two cases in his criminal record, and one involving drugs. He also tested positive for methamphetamines,” said ACP Mohd Iqbal.

He then said that the case is being investigated as a murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code and added that anyone with information can call investigating officer Asst Supt Salwani Samsudin at 0132444234.
