QuickCheck: Is a Deputy Prime Minister being impersonated on Facebook?

RECENTLY, a Facebook account was set up with the name "Haji Fadillah Yusuf" using photos of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof as both the profile pic and banner.

Is this a fake account set up to impersonate him?

VERDICT:

TRUE

In a short post on his official Facebook account, Fadillah said the "Haji Fadillah Yusuf" account is indeed fake.

"This account is not mine. It is a fake account set up by irresponsible parties. Please ignore any messages sent out by it," he said in the post.

Fadillah added that the account has been reported to Facebook.

This is the second time that Fadillah has been impersonated on social media this year, as a similar incident was reported in November.

On Nov 20, Fadillah said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that an individual had used his profile on fake WhatsApp, Telegram, and Facebook accounts.

He said some friends told him they received messages from an individual with the mobile number +6011-14045313 in a WhatsApp group.

"Upon checking, the number was also used on Telegram and Facebook, using my profile.

"The matter has been reported to the operators of WhatsApp, Telegram and Facebook. A check via Truecaller found that the number was being used by someone named Rinoneze,” he said.

He also posted the photo used on the fake Facebook account with the name "Haji Fadillah Yusof".

"My official Facebook account is facebook.com/fadillahyusof1, and my personal Facebook account is facebook.com/fadillah.yusof,” he had added at the time.
