QuickCheck: Is a Selangor city council offering flood victims free repair services for electrical appliances?

The Dec 18 floods that hit several states in Peninsular Malaysia were unprecedented and caught many households unawares. The aftermath caused massive destruction to properties as well as home and electrical appliances. To reduce the burden of affected families, a city council in Selangor has come forward to offer free repair services for electrical items. Is there any truth to this?

VERDICT:

TRUE

The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) is offering free repair services for selected electrical appliances damaged by the floods starting Tuesday (Dec 29) until Jan 1, 2022.

MBSA stated in a notice that among the electrical appliances that can be repaired are rice cookers, water heaters, hair dryers, radios and any small items.

"The equipment must be brought to the operations centre at Dewan Azalea, Jalan Tokoh 25/28 Taman Sri Muda which is open daily from 10am to 5pm," according to a notice shared by MBSA on its Facebook page on Tuesday (Dec 28).

The services will only cover damage diagnosis, cleaning and repair while the cost of spare parts items is to be borne by the owner.

The community service programme was held in collaboration with the Selangor state Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC) as well as several NGO groups skilled in carpentry and electrical appliance repair services.
