PEOPLE have been eating oysters since time immemorial with the oldest shell midden (dump for shellfish waste) found to date being well over 140,000 years old in Blombos Cave, South Africa.
But one question persists, is it true that raw oysters are still alive when you eat them?

TRUE
Oysters don’t die when taken out of water, they can live up to a few weeks inside their shells.
When you shuck an oyster, it is removed from its shell.
The oyster's heart is next to its bottom adductor muscle, which means that when you separate the meat from the shell, they probably die.
Oysters don’t have central nervous systems, so it is unlikely that they feel pain in the same way we do.
