People happy with Brunei govt's move to ease restriction

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The people of Brunei applauded the government’s move on Saturday (May 16) to lift Covid-19 (coronavirus) restrictions in stages for driving schools, gyms and fitness centres, sports facilities (indoor and outdoor), golf courses, restaurants, cafes and food courts as well as stalls and markets.

“This is indeed a welcome move by the authorities to lift restrictions on food outlets as this will improve the country’s economy,” said President of the Asean Food and Beverage Alliance Haji Abdul Halim bin Saim.

Meanwhile, Izah Azahari Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar yesterday assured that the problem with receiving a verification code via SMS for the BruHealth application has been rectified, with only one provider still facing some problems.

As of Saturday morning, Brunei reported one more recovery case - bringing the total number of recovered cases to 135.

According to Brunei's Ministry of Health, no new cases of Covid-19 were recorded on Friday, with the national tally of cases standing at 141, marking the eighth consecutive day without new cases since May 7.

The number of active cases still being treated at the National Isolation Center decreased to five.

Two patients remain in critical condition. The rest are in a stable condition.

There has only been one death resulting from the Covid-19 in Brunei.

The ministry added that so far 101 individuals are still undergoing quarantine and a total of 2,578 individuals have completed their quarantine.
