A VOLUNTEER fire and rescue team in Johor Baru sparked anger online for allegedly placing a rescued kitten in the same box as a snake, reported China Press.
A video of the incident showed a man wearing a Mount Austin volunteer Fire and Rescue team T-shirt in front of a transparent box with a kitten inside.
Upon closer inspection, a brown snake could be seen coiled next to the tiny feline, which could be heard meowing in fear repeatedly.
The video went viral online, sparking allegations of animal abuse.
The volunteer team then issued a statement on Oct 25, explaining that the snake in the box was dead, denying allegations that they had fed the kitten to the reptile.
It apologised for causing a misunderstanding, adding that the kitten was later released.
