PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission (EC) will hold a special meeting on Nov 6 to discuss key dates for the 13th Sarawak state election.
EC secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said the meeting would be chaired by EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun, followed by a press conference to release the details.
“The meeting will discuss key dates for the 13th Sarawak state election, including the issuance of election writs, nomination day and polling day, as well as the electoral roll to be used and other preparations for the election,” he said in a statement, Bernama reported.
He said the EC had also received the official notification from state Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar confirming the dissolution of the 19th Sarawak state legislative assembly, in accordance with Article 21(2) of the state constitution.
“Under Article 21(4) of the Sarawak state constitution, an election must be held within 60 days of the dissolution,” he said.
On Friday, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced that the state assembly would be dissolved effective Monday to pave the way for the state election.
