Man sets lover ablaze over push to get married

A MAN in India burned alive his girlfriend who was pressuring him to marry her, Makkal Osai reported.

Police in Kerala were notified of a burned body near Idukki and the victim was identified as Nitya from the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu.

The victim’s boyfriend, 19-year-old Nishanth, was detained for questioning shortly after and told police that Nitya had been pressuring him to get married.

A few days prior, the couple had gone on a date where they once again got into an argument over the matter.

Angered by her insistence, Nishanth set her on fire. The perpetrator is awaiting charges.

> The Penang Hindu Endowments Board (PHEB) has provided financial relief to three families who lost their loved ones in the recent Nepal-China floods, Makkal Osai reported.

PHEB chairman RSN Rayer said the three families are still awaiting news of their loved ones.

The PHEB had provided RM6,500 to each of the families to reduce some of their financial burden,” he said.
