TEN Tamil schools have been included in the Education Ministry’s free preschool programme, Makkal Osai reported.
The National Tamil Schools Trustee Boards Coordinating Council chairman Datuk K. Karuppiah said the list comprises three schools each from Penang and Perak and two from Selangor and Negri Sembilan respectively.
Currently, there are 7,495 students in 280 preschools in Tamil schools and expanding the list would help preserve Tamil schools and Tamil education, he said.
The council had recommended 18 schools for the preschool and dual language teaching programmes and the preschool scheme is being prioritised by the ministry. The council thanked Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek for the approval given to the 10 Tamil schools.

Makkal Osai reported that a group of friends had to be rescued by passersby after their car got stuck between two walls.
Four youngsters were reportedly travelling from Kerala to Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu when the incident happened.
The group was apparently trying to pass through a narrow lane in Nagercoil when their car began brushing up against the house walls on either side.
They tried to press on and found themselves completely stuck and unable to even get out of the vehicle.
Nearby residents came to their rescue, and helped push the car out.
The car and walls of the house suffered minor damage and the group continued the journey via another route.
