PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across Johor, Sarawak and Sabah, effective until 4pm on Sunday (Sept 27).
In Peninsular Malaysia, the weather alert covers southern and eastern districts in Johor, specifically Kota Tinggi, Kulai, Johor Bahru, Kluang, Mersing and Pontian.
Over in East Malaysia, widespread severe weather is expected across Sarawak, affecting Kapit, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu, Limbang, Samarahan, Serian and Kuching, alongside Marudi and Telang Usan in Miri.
In Sabah, the warning covers the entire Pantai Barat division, as well as Kota Marudu in Kudat, and several areas in Pedalaman including Membakut, Keningau, Tambunan, Pensiangan, Sook, Tenom and Sipitang.
MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.
The notice was officially issued by the department at 1.25pm on Sunday.
