KUALA LUMPUR: Police have conducted an assessment at former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s residence in Jalan Langgak Duta here with the Prisons Department in preparation for any order to commence house arrest.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam, when met outside the residence yesterday, confirmed that he had attended a meeting there with Prisons Department officials.
“The decision has not been finalised yet. Whatever decision is made will come from the top leadership, and the decision will be conveyed to the media at any time.
“From the police security standpoint, we are prepared at any time to ensure security both outside and inside,” he said.
ACP Anuar Bakri added that details of the house arrest arrangements would only be finalised once the order had been completed.
“As of now, there are no exact details. We just conducted an assessment of the residence,” he said.
“So, in this matter, the Prisons Department asked the police to attend as well.
“For the police, we are looking at it from the aspect of security.
“As for the house arrest, that is under the purview of the Prisons Department,” he added.
ACP Anuar Bakri also dismissed rumours that concertina wire would be installed at the residence.
“The Prisons Department is responsible for the inside of the residence, while we are responsible for the outside,” he said.
The Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department previously announced that Najib had been granted a conditional pardon by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of a RM50mil fine and other conditions.
