ABOUT five years ago, 49-year-old Izudin Muhamad Amin came up with a unique idea – to grow pineapples on the concrete roof of his home.
Starting with 100 seedlings in the first season, his pineapple cultivation has expanded to 300 MD2-variety plants this year.
Izudin said the idea struck him shortly after he moved into the housing estate in Kuantan, Pahang, in 2021, Utusan Malaysia reported.
Having had an interest in agriculture since childhood, he began considering ways to utilise the available space at his home, including the unused concrete roof area.
“Land space was limited, so I looked at the spacious, unused roof area.
“Rather than leaving it empty, I thought it would be better to turn it into a garden,” he said.
Izudin added that he harvested his first crop about a year after planting and gave the majority of the harvest to friends and neighbours as gifts.

“When people say things like that, it really makes you think,” she said.
