GEORGE TOWN: A classroom at SMJK Chung Ling in Ayer Itam here was razed in a fire Monday (Sept 21) night.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director John Sagun Francis said a team of 12 personnel in three fire engines from the Paya Terubong and Lebuh Pantai fire and rescue stations was dispatched to the scene after an emergency call was received at 7.54pm.
“The fire involved a classroom measuring about 20ft by 30ft, with estimated damage of 20%.
“There were no school activities at the time of the incident and no casualties were reported,” he said in a statement Tuesday (Sept 22).
John said the fire was fully extinguished at 8.40pm before further inspections were conducted to ensure there were no other hazards at the site.
He said the operation ended at 9.22pm, and the case was handed over to the Fire Investigation Officer (FIO) for further action. The cause of the fire and total losses are still under investigation. — Bernama
