PETALING JAYA: A four-day cloud-seeding operation has been launched in Johor, Melaka and Negri Sembilan to help replenish dam levels and safeguard water supplies.
The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) said the operation would run until Thursday.
The operation is being carried out in collaboration with the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) and the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry.
Nadma said the operation aimed to increase dam water levels to optimum capacity as part of efforts to ensure continuity of water supplies and the sustainability of water resources.
It added that cloud seeding would also serve as a supporting measure to mitigate potential haze episodes in affected states.
However, Nadma stressed that the success of the operation would depend on the availability of suitable clouds and prevailing atmospheric conditions.
MetMalaysia’s forecast indicated thunderstorms in parts of Johor, Melaka and Negri Sembilan, with further thunderstorms expected in the three states during the operation.
