PETALING JAYA: A total of 16 areas nationwide recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 8am Tuesday (Sept 22).
According to the Environment Department's Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, Sibu in Sarawak recorded the highest API reading at 177, followed by Sri Aman (168), Mukah (167), IPD Serian (159) and Bintulu (157).
Other areas in Sarawak with unhealthy air quality were Kapit (157), Kuching (157), Samalaju (156), Sarikei (155), and Samarahan (155).
In the peninsula, Putrajaya recorded an unhealthy API reading of 153, followed by Shah Alam (Selangor) and Politeknik Kota Kinabalu (Sabah) at 117; Cheras in KL (116); Johan Setia, Selangor (114); and Nilai, Negri Sembilan (113).
Three areas recorded good API readings - Langkawi, Kedah (49); Tanah Merah, Kelantan (46); and Balik Pulau, Penang (38) - while 49 other monitoring stations recorded moderate API readings.
An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 (moderate), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy) and 301 and above (hazardous).
