SAR for missing anglers enters fifth day, with one still missing

PORT KLANG: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for seven anglers reported missing off One Fathom Bank, Selangor, entered its fifth day on Friday (Sept 18), with six victims found and one still missing.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director Maritime Capt Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh said the latest victim was found in Perak waters on Thursday (Sept 7), about 10.5 nautical miles southwest of Bagan Sungai Belukang.

He said the body was taken to Hutan Melintang jetty at about 7pm before being handed over to police and subsequently identified by the victim’s family.

“Search efforts continue today to locate the remaining victim, Raja Mohd Rozi Raja Mohamad, 49, who has yet to be found,” he said in a statement on Friday.

The Forward Search and Rescue Base (PHC) was reactivated at 7am Friday for the fifth day of operations involving sea and air assets from the MMEA, police force, Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Force (APM).

Abdul Muhaimin said KM Nusa from Maritime Malaysia’s Perak state office and Perak police’s RH33 boat had also been deployed to expand the search area in the waters off Bagan Datuk.

The search covers an area of 105 sq nautical miles.

“Maritime Malaysia continues to coordinate the operation with the agencies involved by optimising sea and air assets to ensure the SAR effort is carried out swiftly, systematically and effectively.

“The search for the remaining victim will continue, and any latest developments will be announced from time to time,” he said.
