KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) has rejected a representation sent by preacher Zamri Vinoth who wanted his charge over a purported provocative statement to be reconsidered.
Deputy public prosecutor Nur Farhana Mohamad Poad informed a Magistrate's Court here of this during a mention on Friday (Sept 18).
"Today has been fixed for the decision on the representation and we would like to inform that it has been rejected," DPP Nur Farhana said.
The prosecution also said that it would call six or seven witnesses to testify.
Zamri's lawyer Nur Shafiqah Shafiyah Omar then asked the court to fix trial dates.
Magistrate Faezahnoor Hassan fixed April 21 and 22, 2027, for the hearing.
The 42-year-old preacher was charged on March 17.
According to the charge sheet, Zamri allegedly made a statement on his Facebook account "Zamri Vinoth" at about 12.22pm on Feb 3.
The statement was seen and heard by an individual at Restoran Nasi Kandar Kudu in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.
The prosecution contends the statement could provoke public unrest and instigate people to break public order.
He was charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and faces a maximum of two years' imprisonment, a fine or both if convicted.
Zamri is currently out on a RM4,500 bail.
