More than 500 homes affected by floods in Sungai Buloh, says Ramanan

KUALA LUMPUR: More than 500 houses have been affected by floods following heavy rain in several areas around Sungai Buloh, Selangor, particularly Kampung Melayu Subang.

Sungai Buloh MP, Datuk Seri R. Ramanan (pic) said the affected residents had been evacuated to a temporary relief centre opened at Dewan Siantan in Kampung Melayu Subang.

"The centre will remain operational for as long as necessary to ensure that affected residents receive adequate shelter and assistance,” he posted on Facebook on Monday (Nov 2) night.

He said the Sungai Buloh Parliamentary Constituency Service Centre, together with volunteers, was working closely with the authorities and relevant agencies, particularly the Petaling District and Land Office, Shah Alam City Council and the Social Welfare Department.

Monitoring efforts were also being carried out with the Royal Malaysia Police, Fire and Rescue Department, Malaysian Civil Defence Force and Kampung Melayu Subang Village Development and Security Committee to ensure the safety and welfare of affected residents and address their basic needs, he added.

"I also urge all Sungai Buloh residents to remain vigilant about weather conditions, follow the authorities’ instructions and prioritise the safety of themselves and their families, particularly those living in flood-prone areas.

"Public safety is our priority. The Sungai Buloh Parliamentary Constituency Service Centre will continue to monitor the situation and work with all parties to ensure that no affected residents are left without the assistance they need.

"May everything go smoothly and may all residents remain safe,” he said. - Bernama
