KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia secured RM59.5bil in potential investments through 14 official overseas visits and Trade and Investment Missions (TIMs) between 2025 and September this year.
Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said RM14.2bil worth of investments had been approved, while the remaining RM45.3bil was still at various stages of negotiation and undergoing follow-up.
The TIMs were led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Investment, Trade and Industry Minister.
“On the breakdown of realised investments, a project typically takes between 18 and 24 months to materialise, depending on its scale and complexity, as well as prevailing economic conditions,” he said in a written parliamentary reply on Tuesday (Nov 3).
He was responding to Kurniawan Naim Moktar (BN-Kinabatangan), who asked about the total value of potential investments and actual trade value secured through a series of official overseas visits from 2025 to September 2026.
Johari said the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) would continue its follow-up efforts, monitoring and facilitation to ensure that identified investment opportunities were translated into actual projects in the country.
In terms of trade, Johari said official visits to countries including Kenya, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Turkiye, Japan, Italy, France, South Korea, China, Thailand, India and Russia had yielded positive results, generating RM6.77bil in exports through high-level engagements.
He added that markets which recorded double-digit growth included Namibia (up 426.1%), Angola (55.6%), Brazil (41.0%), Tanzania (35.9%), Ethiopia (28.5%) and Kenya (11.6%).
“In addition, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) continues to diversify its export promotion efforts into new markets in Central Asia, Africa and Latin America.
“From January to September, these three regions collectively recorded a 23.06% increase in exports to RM69.84bil,” he said.
