Time to bring forward GE16, says Zahid at Umno AGM

KUALA LUMPUR: It is time for the 16th General Election (GE16) to be brought forward, says Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

In his president’s policy speech at the 2026 Umno General Assembly (AGM) on Friday (Sept 11), the Deputy Prime Minister said the general election should be expedited as this was what the people wanted.

“The time has come for GE16 to be brought forward. This is not a demand, nor is it a hope.

"This is what the people want. Enough is enough. Give us a chance this time,” he said.

He added that the blue wave was not merely about making Umno a component of the government, saying GE16 would be the defining moment for the party to secure a mandate to lead the country.

“We must embrace our other friends so that we can work together to achieve success,” he said.

Ahmad Zahid also invoked the Malay proverb, “alang-alang menyeluk pekasam, biar sampai ke pangkal lengan”, saying the party should see the fight through to the end.

“Since we have already chosen to fight, then let us fight. Fight on and fight until we win,” he said.
