KUALA LUMPUR: Umno permanent chairman Tan Sri Badruddin Amiruldin riled up delegates and Barisan Nasional components at the party’s annual general assembly when he spontaneously spoke in Hokkien to welcome MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
“I speak Hokkien, you speak Malay… but we are all Malaysians, right? Chinese, Malays, Indians - we are all Malaysians,” he said during the Umno General Assembly on Friday (Sept 11), drawing loud applause from the crowd.
Badruddin then personally greeted all other Barisan component party leaders present uniquely, greeting MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran in Tamil while also using the unique Sabah accent to welcome PBRS leaders present.
Umno began its Annual General Assembly on Friday, and it is scheduled to end on Saturday (Sept 12).
Umno’s Youth, Wanita, and Puteri Wings held their annual meetings on Thursday (Sept 10).
