KUALA LUMPUR: Umno is not a party that promises instant solutions after winning power, says its president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Ahmad Zahid said in the last eight years, the country remained trapped in “permanent vertical warfare”, even though the general election had long been over.
“We are not a party that promises, 'if we win today... as if everything will be solved tomorrow',” he said, drawing thunderous shouts from delegates at the World Trade Centre here on Friday (Sept 11).
Ahmad Zahid was delivering his policy speech at the opening of the 2026 Umno General Assembly.
“What the rakyat are listening to today is: Who will be toppled next? Who wants to ‘tebuk atap’ (use the backdoor way)?
“We have no intention of doing that. But if they try, we have a way to do so,” he said, drawing laughter from the floor.
The Umno president said the public is tired of such political rhetoric.
“Some even ask who will be investigated next and who else will be blamed?
“If it happens, there are those here who want to wear the purple outfit. Although there is no more orange outfit, please do so. The rakyat knows who is really capable of solving all these problems facing us,” he said.
