KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim met with victims of the Aug 30 Kampung Numbak fire housed at the Damai multipurpose hall here.
Anwar, on Friday (Sept 11), accompanied by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, spent nearly 30-minutes meeting some of those affected by the blaze that killed three children and destroyed some 800 wooden stilt houses.
The Prime Minister was briefed by Kota Kinabalu Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah on the steps being taken to assist the victims and also to help them rebuild homes in the affected village.
Anwar later provided special aid to several household heads impacted by the fire.
A total of 111 household heads received special financial assistance from the Federal Government amounting to RM1,500 per family.
Of this, RM500 was channelled through the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister’s Department, while another RM1,000 was provided via the National Disaster Management Agency.
The victims also received food baskets prepared by the agency.
Earlier, the Prime Minister chaired the Technical Committee Meeting on the Implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
The Prime Minister, who arrived here Thursday night, returned to Kuala Lumpur on Friday.
