KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has called for an end to the practice of using law enforcement agencies and national institutions as political tools.
Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said no individuals should be unfairly “coloured” for political reasons.
“We must be determined to make Malaysia a nation built on integrity. We can build wealth and infrastructure, but when trust collapses, everything becomes more difficult.
“We want the people to have confidence in the courts. I repeat, we want the people to have confidence in the courts, and not courts that are being used as political tools.
“We have confidence in all enforcement agencies, but not agencies that are also being used as political tools," he said.
Zahid said this in his president’s policy speech at the 2026 Umno General Assembly on Friday (Sept 11).
He also said Umno’s aspiration was for civil servants to have strong confidence in the system and not be subjected to threats.
“Whoever forms the government, the country’s institutions must not be used as tools for political interests. Remember that,” he said.
He added that Umno aims for Malaysia to be among the world’s top 20 countries in terms of integrity, governance and the rule of law.
"We want the rule of law, not rule by law. Good governance is not merely something to be shouted about in a manifesto.
"Rather, it is the belief that power must be exercised as a trust, and not be used as a means of oppression and persecution," he said.
