KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia belongs to all Malaysians and Umno’s upholding of Malay interests does not infringe the rights of other citizens, says Umno secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

Reflecting on Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s address, he said nation-building must continue to be the priority while promoting unity.

“The president did not speak about political rhetoric. Instead, the focus was about paving the country’s way forward.

“Although we speak about upholding Malay interests, it does not mean we are denying the fact that Malaysia belongs to all Malaysians, be it the Malays, Chinese, Indians or bumiputra of Sabah and Sarawak.

“We must continue preserving unity, as seen through the foundations laid out by Umno, MCA and MIC,” he said when met by reporters after the presidential address here on Friday (Sept 11).

Asyraf Wajdi also said the Umno president’s speech also addressed questions raised by the grassroots, especially on the party’s direction.
