KOTA BARU: The remains of Dr Ainul Baraah Kamarudin, 33, are expected to be brought back to Kelantan on Friday (Sept 11), subject to the completion of the identification process.
Her husband, Muhammad Faiz Abdul Malik, 37, said the Ministry of Health and relevant agencies were working to expedite the process to allow the remains of all five victims to be buried.
"If the process is completed, my wife's remains are expected to be brought back to Kelantan for burial tomorrow," he said when contacted on Thursday (Sept 10)
He said DNA samples from all five victims, including his wife, would be sent to the Department of Chemistry Malaysia in Kuching for analysis to assist in the identification process.
"My wife's personal belongings were also handed over to the authorities yesterday to assist with the identification," he said.
Muhammad Faiz said he and his parents-in-law were currently staying at a hotel in Miri while waiting for updates from the hospital and authorities.
"At the moment, we have not been allowed to see my wife's remains and are still waiting for the latest update from the authorities. We may be taken to the hospital this afternoon," he said.
Last Wednesday, a BO-105 helicopter carrying five people, including the pilot, crashed near the Long Lellang Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) Airport in Ulu Baram, about 929 kilometres from Kuching.
The helicopter was conducting a flying doctor service (FDS) operation at the time.
Miri Division Resident and Disaster Management Committee chairman Galong Luang confirmed that all five people on board died in the crash at about 3.40pm.
Apart from Dr Ainul Baraah, the victims were pilot Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham, 30; medical assistant Alexson Adit Henry, 31; and nurses Debra Moset, 40, and Jessie Paya Jok, 44. – Bernama
